? BT Group announced a 3% increase in first-quarter core earnings and revenues, while its shares fell 2.3%. CEO Ben Verwaayen said the company had got off to a strong start for the year, and that he expected to see upward trends continuing in the broadband market.

? Rosum, a provider of location technology for safety-of-life applications, announced that recent test results show it is in compliance with the FCC's Phase II E9-1-1 specifications for handset-based solutions. Tests were conducted in five public safety answering point jurisdictions (PSAPs) in five metropolitan areas spanning five states, containing rural, suburban, urban and dense urban environments. Rosum's hybrid TV+GPS positioning technology combines TV and GPS measurements for reliable position location indoors and out, providing reliable E9-1-1 location capability to wireless, VoIP and fixed mobile convergence (FMC) platforms.

? ESPN, Qualcomm subsidiary MediaFLO USA and Verizon Wireless have teamed up to deliver a new mobile TV channel, EXPN on V CAST Mobile TV, bringing all the action of X Games 13, including live competitions, behind-the-scenes coverage and commentary, to mobile phones. EXPN will be available for the duration of X Games 13. Live coverage starts at 11:30 a.m. Pacific on Aug. 2 and concludes at 3 p.m. Pacific on Sunday, Aug. 5. Highlights of previous years' X Games also will be shown on the dedicated channel from July 22 through Aug. 1, and "Best of the X Games" and X Game 13 replays will air Aug. 6-7.

? Anadigics is shipping production volumes of its dual-band AWT6279R WCDMA power amplifier (PA) module for use in Samsung's new SGH-U700 smartphone, available from Vodafone. The SGH-U700 is a tri-band phone with HSDPA 3G WCDMA capabilities. It features an HTML-enabled Web browser, a built-in e-mail client, text and MMS messaging, playback compatibility, a personal organizer and a picture editor.

? Mobio is using YouTube to show off three of its widgets: Get Gas; Twitter, a photo-sharing application; and Stepping Out, a mobile social networking application. The video can be viewed at here.

? Infonetics has just released a white paper that assesses the viability of different solutions for in-building cellular coverage, particularly distributed antenna systems, picocells, femtocells, and alternatives such as VoIP over wireless LAN. The paper analyzes the various solutions for in-building cellular coverage in terms of their improvement of signal reach and quality, deployment and management challenges, cost of deployment and ownership, handset requirements, and commercial issues.

? Janet Roberts has joined IntelliOne Technologies' advisory board. IntelliOne is a traffic information company that measures roadway speed by analyzing mobile phone network usage. Roberts is vice president of corporate communications and product marketing at Syniverse.

? Allot Communications, provider of IP service optimization solutions based on deep packet inspection (DPI), has announced that Color Broadband Communications has implemented its NetEnforcer AC-1010 broadband management products to optimize service operations and improve bandwidth utilization for its fixed wireless voice and broadband businesses.

? Trilibis Mobile has introduced Peepsnation 4.0, the newest version of its mobile social network that allows young social consumers to connect with one another. Peepsnation provides a simple and safe medium to message, meet new friends and flirt directly from their cell phones. Peepsnation's features allow users to quickly browse through numerous profiles and pictures; send graphics-based tags, such as You're Hot, Rock Star, Player, Angel; and leave instantaneous feedback via key firing. Users also can send each other written messages, and eventually meet after mutually agreeing to it. Peepsnation 4.0 is live on six major U.S. carrier decks, including Boost, Sprint, Verizon Wireless and Virgin Mobile, using BREW, Java and WAP platforms. The free to browse pay-per-message version, can be accessed from a mobile browser by going to peepsnation.mobi.

? Following the acquisition of the Planet EV wireless network planning product line from Ericsson, CTS International has launched its new corporate identity, Mentum. The company offers a complete product line for the planning and optimization of the access and backhaul wireless networks. Mentum has 110 employees with headquarters in Paris and offices in Hong Kong, Ottawa and Tokyo. The company plans to open a Dallas-based office by the end of August.
