Project Ahimsa Media Center
Company Overview
Project Ahimsa, a global effort to empower youth through music, was co-founded in 2001 by entrepreneurs Tejas Patel, based in Tampa, Florida, and Vijay Chattha and Nihal Mehta, based in San Francisco, California. Project Ahimsa (which means non-violence in Hindi) is dedicated to fostering unity and peace through arts exchange and education. By creating opportunities for youth to explore multi-cultural artistic expression, Project Ahimsa's founders discovered they could empower youth in isolated, poor and fragmented communities. The organization's programs, inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, create and support projects that help disadvantaged youth in both the United States (California, Florida, and Colorado) and India (Ahmedabad and Kolkata). Project Ahimsa is based in San Francisco and operates under the auspices of the Patel Foundation for Global Understanding (www.global-understanding.org) in Tampa.
